How to Measure for new kitchen cabinets
Here’s what you will need to get started:
- Use our kitchen
layout grid to write down your measurements as you go. Note
we are using the that ½” = 1 foot or stated another way 5 inches = 10 feet.
Write down all dimensions in inches.
- 25-ft tape measure see
Stanley Tools for a wide selection. You will get more accurate
measurements for longs runs. You can also use a 10 or 12 ft if you
have smaller kitchen.
- Pencil, with an eraser :)
- Standard Level see
Stanley Tools for examples. A 3-6ft wide model is fine for mast
applications.

The proper measurement of your kitchen is the most important step to ensuring proper cabinet, appliance, and accessory design and placement. This is a quick and easy process, however, we encourage you to take your time and measure twice.
Exact dimensions are important to the planning process. Follow the measuring procedure in the sample diagram below to prepare a simple floor plan of your kitchen. Mark the exact locations of doors, windows, gas line, water line, drains, hood vents, exhaust, drains, heat vents, light fixtures, and switch outlets. Please double check your measurements.
