How to design your kitchen

Step 1 - View Our Kitchen Photo Galleries as a guide in helping you to create the perfect kitchen for your home and lifestyle, we've put together the following summary galleries of kitchen designs. There are many ideas to choose from, but bear in mind that these are only a small sample of what you can do with our cabinetry. Each set is filled with endless possibilities to suit your needs. Just click on a style to experience some of the possibilities.

Step 2 – Review Possible Kitchen layouts. There are 6 basic kitchen layouts, each with a work triangle as  defined by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. The work triangle is 3 imaginary lines drawn from the center of the sink, to the center of the cook top, to the center of the refrigerator and finally back to the sink. Efficiency is the triangle’s main goal, as it keeps all the major workstations near the cook, without placing them so close that the kitchen becomes cramped. The work triangle is also designed to minimize traffic within the kitchen so the cook isn’t interfered with or interrupted. Follow these simple guidelines and the work triangle can help you plan your space for maximum efficiency, saving you time and many, many extra steps. Here are some examples of standard kitchen layouts with their work triangle.

Same advantages as U-Shaped Kitchen (see below)

U-Shape Kitchen
U-Shape Kitchen
3 walls surround cook with continuous countertop and storage. Sink, Stove, and Refrigerator are located among the three walls. Most efficient plan with more space than a galley.

Broken U-Shape Kitchen
Broken U-Shape Kitchen
Functional plan. Counter/storage space advantages are minimized.

Single Wall Kitchen with Island
Island increases functionality of single wall plan. Prep Sink near Stove increases efficiency. Maintains an “open feel”. Allows for more that one person to effectively use the kitchen, hence there are two triangles shown.

Step 3 - Layout your potential design on this Kitchen Grid. We recommend you call us first at 888-860-3252 to discuss your specific plan. This will save both you both time and money. We will gladly assist you in laying out the kitchen you want within your budget. Below is an example of a typical 10ft x 10ft L-shaped kitchen layout. You can use this as an example of how to create a drawing to match your kitchen. We used Microsoft Visio to create this, but you can use grid paper or plain paper, a pencil and ruler. You don't have to spend much money, just take the time to design it right on "paper" the first time and then make incremental improvements as you go along. As with any home project, you must have a plan and the drawing is one of the first steps in that plan. Here is how to layout your kitchen if you want to do some of the legwork first.
